The Mexcican Revolution (1913)

Injustices under President Diaz
  • Decisions made by small groups of rich men
  • Central American tribes sent off to work as slaves
  • Poor Mexicans starving while rich farmers sent their crops out of the country
  • Diaz's men kept other candidates from running for president

The Mexican Revolution

  • Began by Francisco Madero in San Antonio, Texas
  • Joined by Pancho Villa and other rebels
  • Diaz was driven out of the country
  • After two years, Madero was arrested and murdered
  • Victoria Huerta ruled for less than a year
  • Began thirty years of civil war, assassinations, and struggle

World War I

The assassination of Archduke Ferdinand

  • Serbia was angry because Austria had taken Bosnia
  • Assassin was a Serbian man named Gavrilo Princip
  • Austro-Hungarian Empire declared war on Serbia

The two sides

  • Central Powers
  • Allied Forces

Great Britain and World War I

  • Passed draft law
  • Women took over men's jobs
  • Hundreds of thousands of men killed and crippled

The U.S. and World War !

  • US first angered by sinking of the Luistania
  • US then angered by German telegram to Mexico (attempt to make a deal with Mexico)
  • US joined the war on April 6, 1917
